NSTC (North Slope Training Course) [ITEC V117] Course cost: $204.00
The North Slope Training Cooperative (NSTC) is a combined effort of BP, ConocoPhillips, Alyeska Pipeline and their contractors. Training provides health, safety and environmental awareness training. Every employee on the north slope is required to complete the program before arrival on the North Slope.
Non-Process Areas – Minimum Training Requirements (long term or temporary)
Any company or contract employee who works unescorted at the various field-operating areas or is permanently assigned to an operating area such as the North Slope must complete, as a minimum, the “Unescorted” program or an NSTC approved equivalent training consisting of:
• General Camps & Safety Orientation
• Alaska Safety Handbook
• Environmental Excellence
• HAZWOPER First Responder Awareness (Level 1)
• Personal Protective Equipment
• Hazard Communication (HAZCOM)
• Unescorted Refresher
Any person physically working on, near or in equipment would generally be considered “unescorted” regardless of local oversight, and thus would require relevant NSTC training. In addition, “unescorted” personnel may include vendors and visitors to the North Slope who will be driving on company property, entering facilities, or could be exposed to risks for which they may need additional “Site-Specific” training in order to minimize the risk of injury.
On completion of this program, personnel will be issued an NSTC card. The training defines the minimum initial knowledge needed for an individual to assess and manage the risks associated with their work tasks.
Process Areas – Minimum Training Requirements (long term or temporary)
Any company or contract employee who requires access to operating facilities and/or well pads/drill sites shall complete the “Unescorted” program defined above in addition to the facility Safety Orientation or other required site specific training prior to commencing work in that facility/well pad/drill site. These safety orientations satisfy the requirements of the OSHA PSM standard and in all cases must be entered on the employees NSTC card. Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) training may also be required for certain facility/well pad/drill site access.
Any person physically working on, near or in equipment would generally be considered “unescorted” regardless of local oversight, and thus would require relevant NSTC training.
