Tier III Fishing Vessel Training Program

Donning Protective Clothing The Training Department at Prince William Sound Community College holds a contract with the Alyeska Pipeline Service Company to provide training under what the company terms its Tier III Fishing Vessel Training Program. In the event of a major spill incident, the College has qualified adjunct instructors on staff ready to provide an 8 hour marine hazmat course to commercial fishing vessel crews mobilized for a response.

Elements of the Training Program

  • Introduction and Program Review – Fate and behavior of oil, hazard communications procedures and hazardous materials identification.
  • Safety and Health – General safety practices, safe boating operations, towing and line handling, crane safety, site characterization, safety plans and decontamination.
  • Incident Command System and Communications – Chain of command, communications procedures, check-in and check-out protocol, and demobilization.
  • Response Strategies and Tactics – Response strategies, dispersants, in-situ burning, response and equipment.
  • Competency Check – Performance check and review of material presented.
